I keep getting error 0xC004D401 - saying I have a file mismatch or that my
license is tampered but I had genuine XP and downloaded VISTA from microsoft
and registered by copy. What can I do ?

Did you install Daemon tools? Any other burining/mounting software? Any
"questionable" software? Do you run Windows Update?

I get this error at random intervals during my time logged on using the
internet. I have just had a good cleanup of some of the startup services &
programs (including the AOL connectivity add ons) so hoping this will stop it
but If you think of anything else let me know.

Hi Zapper. Well I used a free trial of a program to download and burn to DVD
called Sateira CD/DVD Burner and it all seemed to work ok. I tried Windows
Update and it says there is currently nothing to install.

Any ideas please let me know, thanks for your help.

I mean when did you first notice it? Was it about the time you installed a
virtual drive program?

I first noticed it yesterday, my last windows update (automatic) was day
before that ... it seems to have stopped now for the last few hours, maybe I
removed something it wasn't happy with... or maybe it will come back. I
haven't done anything to do with a virtual drive (as far as I know)

Just checking for something that I heard about that hit some users this
month. Sorry to have butted in.

No help here, but when I did an upgrade from XP each time I tried to open a
file on the C drive the system BSOD. After a clean install no problems with
that. Other side is most of the programs I have won't install, but they may
not have worked anyway with the upgrade.
