I periodically clear out my temp files and in my c:\Windows\temp directory
there is a new file that started showing up called libFNP_events.log It
seems to be reporting an error of some sort.

I did a few googles and I find others asking the same question without any
answers although there are hits on the exception and libfnp related to adobe
macrovision.

Of course the standard answer of viruses or malware is offered but I don't
think its a result of that ... I've scanned used norton at latest sig., have
norton's firewall and a product from counterspy for malware/spyware and I'm
clean as a whistle. (and why is a whistle clean?)

I recently added some additional memory to my pc however it is functioning
normally, reports no errors in device manager and I have no other symptoms of
problems.

Does anyone know what this libFNP file is from and should I be concerned?

I found the answer to the mystery after researching a new exe running in the
background.

libFNP log file is related to Macrovision and Flexnet Publisher which is
used by several products for licensing purposes. It appears to be have been
installed for me with Adobe Acrobat Standard v 8. Look for the following
directory to confirm if this is the issue for you too:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Macrovision Shared\FLEXnet Publisher

There was a thread elsewhere (can't remember where ... for the executable
found in this directory that I saw running from task manager) about renaming
the files to old and replacing them with like named folders to fake out the
product to avoid the temp file being created and the service that is running
in the background. I tried it. DON'T It caused Adobe to quit working and
I had to rename the files back.

Anyways mystery solved. Just another useless program running in the
background putting out meaningless error msgs in temp.
