LG to release levitating Bluetooth speaker

LG will be showcasing their new levitating Bluetooth speaker at CES 2017 in January. The speaker hovers above the charge station while playing 360 degree audio, and can also be used outdoors:

When its 10-hour battery begins to run low, the smart portable speaker automatically descends to the Levitation Station and begins to charge wirelessly with no intervention from the listener and no interruption in the music. The PJ9 is IPX7 compliant in order to withstand any adverse weather condition when being used outdoors. For added convenience and versatility, Multipoint technology enables the speaker to connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously.

I think it is just a gimmick you need a decent speaker to reproduce good quality music.

One thing that I guess might be useful is that if the speaker isn't physically connected to a surface then the sound won't travel through solids as easily. Could be useful for people who live in flats etc so that they don't disturb their neighbours.
