The following is my e-mail to Lexmark Tech Support re: their X73's
scan & copy app:

I already e-mailed re: the fact that limited users under XP can't scan
or copy using your application. Why don't you genuises at Lexmark
write your application so that it makes Temp files in the Windows Temp
directory like every other application on the planet, instead of
forcing users to give permissions to the Program Files directory to
limited users, or make everybody an Administrator. What you've written
essentially is a virus. This is the most retarded application I've
seen in a long time. And I'm ready to post this on every applicable
newsgroup and send it to every person I know working in IT. And the
kicker is, that even after giving limited users permission, you app
still doesn't work. Your work sucks.

Congratulations on your diplomatic savvy. I'm sure the Lexmark people are
ready to bend over backwards to make your problem right regardless of time,
effort, and expense. Right?

I've had the same problem with some applications and even high-level
drivers that insist on spewing their garbage files in the system
directories. It is a major pain having to make the system directory
unprotected, and then set permissions to the files therein that need to be
protected.

I am amazed that there are driver developers out there who write code for
NT for a living, yet they still seem to be living in 1990 and assume NT is
like Windows 3.1 on FAT16!

If you see a 'X' in my address, please remove it before e-mailing me.
Do not add me to any MicroSoft address book; I do not want your viruses.
I track and report spam; do not send me junk mail.
