I would be grateful if someone could help me. I have got a Lexmark
Z605 printer and am using Windows 98. I have loaded the disc and have
the correct printer driver. I cannot get the printer to print, the
message I get is as follows Incorrect Port Detected - Make sure you
are using a USB cable and the printer is set to a USB port. I have
tried to set it to a usb port but they are not listed although I do
have 2 usb ports. Please could someone tell me how to sort this out.
Thank you.

This suggests you did not instal the Lexmark right, but we are
not sure because the OP did not say whether the Lexmark had
ever been installed OK on this Win98 PC.

1. Usual method is to instal USB driver software before
the printer is connected. Connection is the last stage of
the installation process.
2. Win98 is an old OS and if this Lexmark is a new printer
it may not have Win98 drivers.
3. The error message "Incorrect Port Detected" does not
refer to your USB plug sockets but to operating system
configuration. When a USB printer is installed you
ought to see in its / Properties / Details a window where
you can select the right port (if needed: this ought to be
set up correctly during installation, i.e. before the USB
printer is ever switched on.)

Thank you. Yes it has been installed before and worked ok. As I said
there is not a usb port to select although I have 2 usb ports and also
as I said I do have the driver.

Does any USB device work?
Plug in a USB memory stick, does it show as a drive letter?
On my mobo you have to enable the USB ports in BIOS.
If they aren't enabled in BIOS the OS won't see them,
then you won't be offered them for your printer.

Thank you. Yes the USB devices work otherwise. Could you please tell
me how to enable them is BIOS. Thank you.

Repost here the list of all ports listed in the window at
/ Printers / Lexmark / Properties / Details.
