I've a Lexmark Z612 printer succesfully installed in Vista. Did the
following steps:

- download the unidriver from:
http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-pe...:486:0:0&searchLang=nl&os_group=WinXP&target=
(it's a driver for XP but works fine with Vista)
- run the installationprogram in XP mode(!) en remember where Windows puts
the .inf files
- go to control panel --> add printer and choose 'have disk' -->
point to de first .inf file and click the ok button
- the Z600 printerseries appear--> select en let Vista install (it takes a
while!)
- when the box with 'printer installed' appears, SELECT PORT; in my case USB
- click OK and be sure the printer is on; it should work.

Excellent solution Arnold.
Thanks for the information.

This didn't work so well on my machine. The printer installation just kept
spinning and spinning and I have no idea if it will ever stop. Such
processes should be communicating more with the end user. Once the progress
bar reaches 100%, the process just keeps going and does not return to the
user control. Is it hung? I'll never know, and my loyalty to Microsoft
drops when I cant use my hardware.

Hello Michael,

Sorry for the delay. I started Windows Explorer en pointed it to the
installationprogram.
Click right and choose Properties. Then Compatibility and choose Run this
program
in compatibilitymode for: Windows XP... Click OK. Then start the
installation.

Be sure your printer is online and choose the right port. Otherwise the
systeem seems
to hang, but realy tries to print a page to the wrong port.

Good luck!

Arnold

It worked! The only catch is that it appeared to stall during the file
setup phase. Some time elapsed before all the files were installed and then
the device had to get my attention via a dialog box.
