I cannot get xp to communicate with the printer through
the usb port on my system. I have tried the printer on my
laptop and it works no problems. This proves the cable and
printer are alright.
I suspect the usb ports but don't know how to check them.
I am running XP Pro.
I hope someone can help

Check the HP website for instructions re downloading and installing the XP
driver for your printer.

Also consider changing the print processor to Winprint with a default data
type of RAW. This solved my encounter with extremely slow print times after
installing the WinXP driver.

To do this, go to Control Panel/Printer and Faxes. Right click on X73,
select Properties/Advanced/Print Processor.
