okay, i am gritting my teeth becasue of how s l o w my system is since my
install of vista beta 2. I can deal with it as I am aware this is a trial and
error thing, but PLEASE can someone point me in the right direction to get my
new fax/scanner/printer and computer to communicate? I have done the step by
step instructions indicated and installed my disk and blah blah blah...
obviously it didn't work or I would not be asking for help. Please reply in
english and not computer language. Some of us are just normal people with an
ordinary life and don't understand all of the jibberish that you
intellectually superior computer people use. You might as well be trying to
tell a supermodel how to rebuild a chevy big block. lol :)

I just got mine working from some info from another poster (Chad Harris)
earlier on this thread. Thanks a million Chad.

I have a X5270.
I didn't use the CD I got with it.
I went to Lexmark's site and downdloaded the driver software for Windows XP.
After downloaded, I ran the file and had it unzip to a folder I created on
the Desktop.

The other poster said to disconnect the printer and plug it back in. I did
and I heard the ding sound when I unplugged and when I plugged back in. He
said you would see a message down by clock but I didn't about a new device
found.

I went to Device Manager and and under Other Devices with a Yellow Question
Mark was my printer showing with a yellow question mark on it.

I right clicked on it and said to update driver software.
Told it to go to the folder with the unzipped files in it on my desktop.

He said it would take awhile and it did. It took about 25 minutes and it
finally finished.
A few times got some kind of request message that you just have to keep
clicking Cancel on it.

He then said to go to Control Panel and to Printers.
Right click on the Printer and then set it as default.
I tried to print something something and it works.

In Device Manger I have Scan with a yellow question mark on it under Other
Devices. My printer is a 3 in 1. I haven't tried to get that part working
and won't mess with it. I don't need it in Vista. I just want to be able to
print. I imagine it will install just like the printer itself did by doing
the same steps.

The other Poster that I got this tip from was under the name "Chad Harris."
I want to give Chad Harris a big Thank You for this information.
Thank You Chad. Really glad I ran into your reply to 4evrnella and really
appreciate it since I now can print. Have been trying since this Beta came
out and now finally can.

Ed.

I've got a P6250, and the disk refused to install. I got around it by d/l
the latest version of the driver from Lexmark, and then using Add Printer
from printers and selecting the driver. Vista will look like its crashed,
but I let it crunch for about an hour, and the driver finally did install.

Also did the same with the scanner - updated the driver from device manager

Thank you. I will try it and let you know if it works. I have an X4270 so
maybe if I am lucky this will do the trick.
By the way, Colin, I already went to the link site before I asked for help.
thank you anyway. And thank you for responding so promptly.
