Below is a question I posed to Lexmark. They tell me it
is a Microsoft issue. Anyone know the fix ?

Russ,

This is a known issue with plug and play not writing to
the registry
properly, you will need to contact Microsoft for the fix.

Barry

I set up the printer with the drivers from your
website. The printer
works. However, every time I reboot the computer, the
computer tells
me
that it found new hardware. The Lexmark e322 printer. Do
I need an
updated driver or something to support this printer with
Windows XP SP1
?

I dad this problem as well after finding that the default XP driver did not
have all the features of the Lexmark version. I followed all the guidelines
about completely removing Lexmark drivers but with no success.

There are two options:

1. Let the new driver install its driver and then in the Printers control
panel change it to "Pause Printing" and make the Lexmark driver the default.
The downside is it still show up on the list of available printers.

2. Edit the registry and remove all references to Lexmark printer. Then
install the Lexmark driver. This is a very dangerous operation, so only
attempt it if you have experience with backing up, editing, and restoring
the registry. I used this procedure to eliminate the new hardware annoying
message and extra printer driver.
