Hi

I've had trouble with my Lexmark 1100 printer. First it claimed that the
driver was damaged or incorrect. Attempts to reinstall the driver were faced
with 'Print spool is not engaged' or 'RPC server is unavaliable'.

I searched these forums for solutions and managed to restart the print spool
(eventually) only to be faced with the error "Cannot find specified print
monitor".

I have tried to go to the Lexmark website to download updated drivers and
installed what I found, only for the computer to STILL say 'search for
drivers for this hardware?' and come up with the 'cannot find print monitor'
when I attempt to direct it to the new driver.

Can anyone help?

Unfortunately, no go.

I followed the steps, deleted everything I could and reinstalled.

The reinstallation process seemed to not work. The setup program ran, files
were copied and then it just vanishes. No error message, no success message.

Any attempt to print says 'You need to install a printer' and any attempt to
do so with the files downloaded from the Lexmark website looks good until it
comes up with the failure error 'cannot find specific print monitor' again.

Has ANYONE had any success with a Lexmark printer? This only seems to have
become an issue after we updated to SP3 - though of course it could be a
coincidence.

Does the USB 'ding' when you connect printer to PC?

Does the printer work with another PC?

If neither, then I'd suspect the printer is dead. If no to the first but
yes to the second, try uninstalling the USB Controllers in Device Manager
and then rebooting the PC. XP should re-find and reinstall them. Then try
the printer installation again. You can also try changing the USB cable.
