I have a Lexmark Optra S1855 that has started giving a Fuser error.
Can someone give me a hint as to the possible causes.
I'm reasonably mechanical and electrically inclined.
As luck would have it, when I went to get the error number, the thing
worked, however, I think that it was 523 Fuser Error.
I have the users manual but not the service manual. If someone has a
link to the service manual it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the effort. I will anxiously await the help.

Now I must report that there are a couple of pixels missing on the LCD
screen...probably a 921 error code.

As to your other questions: 66590 pages about a week ago when I ran
the menu page. I did print 220 page (single side document) in duplex
this week. So, Still should be less than 67000 pages.

I just got the machine and don't know its history. The supplier (my
daughter-in-law) bought 36 units at an auction - read that surplus. We
suspect that these units were taken out of service at a single
company. Just how long they may have been stored prior to sale, we
have no idea. Thus, maybe a good internal cleaning of the fuser might
be in order - a quick look - without assembly - things look clean, but
I can't see any of the rollers. Thoughts?

Thanks again for the info. Tomorrow I'll look at the printer insides.
FYI, I have it plugged directly into a wall outlet so I don't expect
that it is the problem, since there isn't anything else (except a
small wall wart feeding its Linksys Print server) on that circuit.

I will check out the possibility of a loose connection to the heater
element.

This particular unit has a high quality special label cartridge. So,
could be a bummed out fuser. That will be check out as well.

One thing that I have noticed is, that this problem usually occurs the
first think in the morning - after being in power save mode over
night. I left the unit off last night and just turned it on to print
the information from your link. Went straight to print without a
problem.

My daughter-in-law has saved me another machine, I just have to go to
Phoenix to get it.
