Hi All:
I recently picked up a used Optra S 1855 laser printer. It works well
despite its over 160K page odometer reading. It is showing one sign of it's
age - it has a peculiar noise. The noise is a clicking noise that is heard
anytime that the paper transport mechanism is operating. It isn't loud or
particularly alarming, but my Optra S 1650 runs without making this noise.
The noise has a frequency of around 2 or 3 clicks per second. It sounds
like a very subdued version of the envelope handler that keeps the gum from
sticking on printed envelopes. But the noise is heard all of the time -
even during power on operation.
Any thoughts on common failure parts that may cause such a noise?
All advice appreciated.
