Does anyone know how to get the lexmark optra T614 in the "programming
code engine" mode. I have tried holding MENU>, SELECT, Return and then
turning on the device like the directions from lexmark stated. All
that will come up is the "invalid code engine". The printer is hooked
up via parallel cable to LPT1. If I hold the go and stop buttons and
then turn it on I get the configuration menu. Can any one help with my
delima?

Thanks,

What exactly are you trying to do? What is this "programming code engine" mode
you are trying to get to?

Hi. Just turn your printer on. The instructions below should work if your
pirnter is in the "Ready" state, or it the display says 902 Service Engine
Software. Hope this helps. - Dave

How to Copy Engine Code Via a Parallel Cable
Windows 9x:

1.. Go to Start, Shut Down, Restart in MS Dos mode.
2.. Change to the directory in which the engine code file is stored.
3.. Type Copy /b <filename> lptx.
4.. Press ENTER.
Windows NT/2000:

1.. Go to Start, Run.
2.. Type Command and press ENTER.
3.. Change to the directory in which the engine code file is stored.
4.. Type Copy /b <filename> lptx.
5.. Press ENTER. The computer screen should display: "1 file(s)
copied"
The printer screen should display: "Programming Engine Code...Do Not
Power Off"
After about 20 seconds, the printer should reset power and then
return to a Ready status.

Note: In the Copy /b <filename> lptx command, the letter <x> is
replaced by the number of the parallel port on your computer to which the
printer is connected.

To download the engine code:

1.. Go to the Lexmark printer firmware site.
2.. Read the terms there and enter the authorization keycode for the
engine code you wish to download. You can locate the correct authorization
code for your printer model from the following list (text in bold):
a.. Optra S (4059) series printers: 4059engn
b.. Optra T610, Optra T612, Optra T614, Optra T616 printers:
optrateng
c.. Lexmark T520, Lexmark T522, Lexmark T620, and Lexmark T622
printers: lextengn
d.. Lexmark T630, Lexmark T632, Lexmark T634 printers: e551413
e.. Lexmark W812: eng204

1.. If you have not yet done so, try turning the printer off and then back
on. Simply resetting the printer may restore it to a working condition. If
not, the code on the printer's engine board will need to be rewritten.

2.. It is possible to send the engine code file to the printer without
having the printer serviced. You can obtain the engine code file from our
web site. It is helpful to put the printer into "Flash Engine" mode first.
Do the following:

3.. Turn the printer off.
4.. Press and hold the Menu>, Select, and Return buttons.
5.. While holding these buttons down, turn the printer on.
6.. When Performing Self Test appears on the printer, release the buttons.
The printer screen should now say Invalid Engine Code.

7.. With the printer in "Flash Engine" mode, you can now copy the engine
code file to the printer. The method used depends on how your computer is
connected to the printer. A direct parallel connection to the printer from a
computer with DOS on it works best.
