I've been trying to get my all-in-one printer to work. I've downloaded the
software many times and also talked to Lexmark Technican. Everything works
except the scanner. I go to device manager and it won't install driver. It
says error encountered and will not work.

Does the Lexmark site have both driver and application code for the version
of Vista 32 bit or 64 bit that you are running?
If an older printer then the application may have to be installed and run in
XP compatibility mode.

The website has both Windows Vista 32 and 64 bit application for drivers.
The problem lies with the OS. Somewhere along the way, the OS will not let
me download the scanner part of the driver.
Thanks for the reply

If Lexmark support via e-mail does not have a solution to your problem then
I don't think any of us here can help either especially if the Lexmark unit
is not a current product.

Well I actually talked to a rep for about 2 - 3 hours on the phone. He tried
a his usual tricks but to no avail. What I am thinking is that there must a
file on Windows OS that is corrupted or something like that that won't let me
download the scanner driver.

Do I understand you correctly that there are two drivers for your all in
printer, one for all functions but the scanner function and another driver
for the scanner functions?
Or is the "scanner driver" you refer to actually scanner application
software?
If you are able to download one and not the other then you possibly have
antivirus software that is blocking the second download.

It is one driver download but it seems that it won't download the scanner
portion because everything works on the printer like copy, photo and text
from the computer. I've tried to download without antivirus and without
firewall but still no luck. This is my second all in one with the same
problem. I thought it might be the software but they both will not let me
scan.
Thanks
Gord

Are you download the Driver(s) in to a folder your PC and then installing
them or are you trying to install them directly from the internet?
What is the actual message you get when the failure occurs?
If you download them into a file on your PC and run the install from the PC
have you tried running the install in XP compatibility mode?

I've tried to download them from the CD and also the internet. These are
Vista drivers. The tech tried everything thru remote connection. Spend many
hours doing all sorts of tricks but to avail. In Device Manager there is a
yellow warning that the drivers are not installed properly. I tried to
Update drivers from there but get a message that drivers didn't install
properly. I also downloaded a old webcam with new drivers and worked fine
but there are other drivers that I tried to update from there and get the
same error message.

It kind of sounds like you do not have bi-directional communication through
your printer cable. The computer is sending information out to the printer,
but cannot receive information back, such as from the scanner.
