I just started working at this joint, the only color printers around
are some model or other of Lexmark color lasers. I used one to print
a few pages of text with diagrams, and the admin nearly fainted -- the
printers are reserved ONLY for executive use because the toner costs
$45,000, she said.

Um, what the heck is that all about?

Someone has had a little too much to drink. I am familiar with all of the
Lexmark lasers and what your admin told you is ridiculous. Lexmark's color
lasers (I have a C750 in my office now) are very economical to operate.

Um, the admin is an idiot?

Next time you get the chance, ask her where she came up with the "toner
costs $45,000" figure. Sounds like somebody yanked her chain hard, and
she actually believed it.

Go online somewhere and get toner price information.

Maybe a thousand cartridges in bulk. The admin is a moron and needs
to find a job better suited to his/her level of ineptitude.

For the record, the admin seems quite adept within her own little
universe of administrivia, and an entire department of hundreds of
software developers apparently lives in shivering fear of using a
color printer without sufficient authorization. The admin isn't the
source of the idiocy. I just thought there might have been some kind
of reasoning behind this -- like maybe Lexmark color lasers break down
pretty often, or once upon a time they had a watchamacallit
sublimation photo-quality color printer that cost $10/pop and nobody
has quite noticed that things have changed ...

As it is, they have at least two of them on the floor, and NOBODY
seems to use them in an average day.

Just more bad craziness, I guess.

And the image quality isn't up to your average ink jet draft quality,
either.
