Hi all.... My lexmark cartridge no 26 no longer prints after about the
6th refill. The ink is flowing freely yet the thing does not print at
all. Do these cartridges eventually burn out?

Yes they do, this applies to all cartridges with built in printheads. They are
designed for one fill only (the original fill), any further fills are a bonus
but most of them can be refilled several times with great success and
significant savings. Looks like it is time to buy another cartridge!

Thanks Tony...... I won't be buying another cartridge. I will be buying
another printer and it won't be Lexmark, the cartridges are way to
expensive.

I'm not surprised, yes the Lexmark cartrdiges are larceny.
Good luck.

Yes, they do. And they can also clog.

The cartridges for Lexmark printers are not designed to even be refilled
once. That they can be is not what Lexmark had in mind for them.

Thermal print heads heat and cool with every dot made, and the type that
are part of the cartridge are simply not designed for long term use.
They do indeed burn out. Most of the time they do so by a group of
nozzles no longer work. A whole head suddenly not printing, while
certainly possible is more often a clogging issue. Might be a bad
refilling.

Considering you got 6 refills from the cartridge, I don't know which
other printer you think will be cheaper to run... maybe a previous
generation Canon?

On some HP and Canon models, the heads are
user-replaceable. They certainly were on
The Canon S9000 series, and on the HP
DesignJet series. And surprisingly
inexpensive, at that.

FWIW, when my S9000 died, after about 18
months of hard use, it wasn't the head
that died, but the main circuit board.

My DesignJet 30 was sold after exactly
a year of hard use, with all six heads
in perfect condition.

Still a mystery to me why Epson doesn't
make their heads user-replaceable.

REPLACING A CANON PRINTHEAD COSTS ALMOST AS MUCH AS REPLACING THE ENTIRE
PRINTER.

BUY A CANON IP5200 AND USE ONLY CANON OEM INK. THEN YOU CAN LAUGH AT ALL
OF THE PROBLEMS YOU READ ABOUT HERE BY THE TINKER TONKERS

Nope. Refilling is okay for nearly all brands. using proper materials and
techniques. Yes, it is less risky for HOC printers, since can go buy a
fresh head with a cart, should you foul up a refill.

Or dig and look for an iP4000 and fill away.

Those that pop down 30 bucks for a printer and want to stretch that out.
YOU CANNOT EVEN GO OUT ON A DINNER DATE FOR $30.00. YOU GOTTA BE A REAL
JOKE

REPLACING A CANON PRINTHEAD COSTS ALMOST AS MUCH AS REPLACING THE
ENTIRE PRINTER.

....and about as much as two sets of OEM ink cartridges.

All you have to do is get more than three refills out of your aftermarket
ink and you're ahead financially, even if the printer did crap out.

Of course, my IP4000 is on about its 15th refill with aftermarket ink - no
problems!
