I need a little assistance please. I need to get my computer to communicate
with my printer, however, since my install of vista beta 2 I cannot. I have
tried everything offered under the printer/faxes... whatever site. No help.
Lexmark has no answer as to date on their website. Am I just printerless
until someone gets off their duffs and comes up with an upgrade? Please let
me know and do not reply in computer code. Some of us are just normal people
that live ordinary lives and cannot undrstand the computer jibberish that you
intellectually superior computer gurus speak! LOL :) Thanks!

Until Lexmark provide the proper Vista drivers for the device, you're out of
luck. Sorry.

See if this helps:

1) Most printer drivers will work in Vista by Beta 2 or beyond and several
builyou go to the ds earlier.
2) Unplug the Lexmark USB from the PC; replug it and reboot and get it
recognized in the notification area. Vista should give you that round logo
telling you new hardware is found. Vista is better than XP at recognizing
new hardware. Get the new hardware recognized before you go after getting
the driver installed.
3) Then download the newest driver appropriate to your Lexmark from the
Lexmark site.
4) You will get some kind of wizard up, and I strongly recommend that you
choose to browse to the location where Lexmark has put that printer driver
folder--it works better in Vista to do that with some drivers. It can be the
difference of getting them in or not.
5) If you have the driver installed, then in the printer folder you should
have the Lexmark printer.
6) Rt. click the printer and make it the default printer.
5) Open the printer folder> right click the Lexmark printer>clickthe ports
tab and make sure that you have USB2 Virtual port checked. In early builds
of Vista they were defaulting LPT1 but USB2 should be checked and probably
is.
6) Then in the printer folder click on your Accessories tab. Under "Paper
Source Setting" Highlight Tray 1 >paper size (letter)>default source is tray
1>click update

then

Under "Paper Source Setting">paper size (undefined)>default source is manual
Tray> click update (which will let you load envelops, other sizes of
labels).

Good luck,

CH
