3 year old 3200 has no color output! I use it very infrequently (last
printed in color some months ago) and now when I try to print color, there
is no trace of color on the page.

I did one clean cycle and used lots of black ink but saw no trace of color.
The printer center does show that the color cartridge is half full.

Can I clean? Will a new cartridge fix the problem?

TIA

It sounds like the color head is dried up and or clogged badly. You
could try soaking the head in a warm-hot solution of windex and water
in a small dish that the head can rest in for several minutes. Do not
let anything but the nozzle head be submerged. Blot dry with tissue
and see if your ink will bleed colors. If not, kiss it good bye.

And yes, most likely a new cartridge will fix the problem.

I don't think the printer center really knows what's in the cartridge.

Soak the printhead in some warm water with some isopropyl alcohol for
a few hours. If it doesn't come back, go out and buy a new one and
get some ink refill kits.

Refilling is a bit of a bother, but it saves you sooooo much!

DO NOT overfill the cartridges. Your problem is indicative of an
overfilling. After a lot of trial and error I'm getting better at it.

Good luck.
