Level2 remove

I have done the security tweak to remove LNK file from Level1, but I still
get the $%%^@!!! annoying message and have to save the LNK file to use it.
This is a joke. A LNK file CAN'T contain a freaking virus. I want to e:mail
a LNK to a file on the server to a coworker so they can look at it, and they
have to save the file to disk, use it, then delete it. What a joke. I tried
adding a Level2 Remove key to the registry to no avail. Is it safe to assume
that MS just doesn't freaking get it? I mean, they don't block #$%@^ DOC
files, and those CAN have viruses. Self serving BS that doesn't really help
with secirty.

Anyway, rant mode off. And crossing fingers there is a registry hack
somewhere so we can stop having 4 copies of large files stored in incoming
and outgoing e:mail boxes and a 5th on the server.

Couldn't you just send a hyperlink to the file's location? i.e:

\\server\folder\filename.ext

You can, but there are two issues there. One, I can write WSH script that
adds the LNK file much easier than one that adds the text. This would be a
non issue if MS would provide Send Link tby E:mail along with Send Link to
Desktop and Send to E:mail in the right click menu. Second, a user might
want to save the LNK to their machine, so using the LNK file makes it much
more flexible. Ideally, I would like it if Exchange was smart enough to
check the links and give a warning if they are coming from outside the
domain (and would thus be deadends) or are going outside the domain. As it
is, the standard MS setup forces users to e:mail files, filling up their
Exchange store with attachments, and rendering useless the fact that you
have a network for file sharing, more than any other single reason. I am
looking into the Security Form that fixes Exchange, but it would help a
small office using P2P WinXP as their network. I guess MS wants to beat
those little firms into going to SBS.

Gordon
