It still looks like nobody in the NG has resolved this apparently fairly
simple problem:

Office 2003

In Outlook, from a selected contact, menù -> Actions -> New letter to
contact, the letter wizard pops up and even if an existing template is
choosen, when exiting the letter wizard a blank page is given with only the
mailmerge fields imported form the selcted contact. The template content is
complitely ignored.

Any hint?

Thanks

It's not a "simple problem." It has never been possible to store content in
a template. That's not the way this feature works. The closest thing to that
you can do is to store AutoText entries for the style of the template.
Take a look here for some other ways to merge Contact data to a new letter
to a Contact:

?????? What templates are for? What "content" do you mean?

What templates lists are given for in the wizard???

For your custom letter template to appear in the list of Page Designs in the
Microsoft Word Letter Wizard, the letter templates you create must be saved
in the "Letters & Faxes folder Word 97) or the Templates\1033 folder (Word
2000 or 2002). The word "Letter" must be in the file name. Details here:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q181/2/73.asp
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q197/3/40.ASP

Once you have set up your Custom Template(s) you should see it as a choice
when you use the New Letter to Contact option in Outlook.

You cannot load boilerplate text in the body of the letter template. You
must create AutoText entries for the boilerplate. The easiest
thing to do would be to create one template and load the text for each
letter under its own style -- see KB article Q170342 (WD97) or Q207925
(OL2000).

Did you read carefully my first message of this thread? Or you MVPs just cut
and past text from previous threads? :)

I'll higlight it for you:

CUT
the letter wizard pops up and even if an existing template is choosen,

CUT

Let's assume that:

- my templates are in the proper folder;
- my templates start with "LETTER" prefix;
- they're regularly listed in the letter wizard

But when any of those templates is used, a blank page is given with data
coming out from the contact...the template is COMPLITELY ignored.

Looks like nobody still can answer this question!

Why don't you just read my first reply and explain what part you do not
understand. Why do you keep reposting the same question?
What you see is the way this feature works. You cannot load text into a
template (which I assume is what you meant by "content").
The additional information I posted was simply further verification of that
fact from the KB and the workarounds they suggest.
If that is not the question you are asking, then clarify your question.

Nonsense!
What templates are for?
Does Microsoft's left hand knows what the right one is doing?
I'm closing it here.

Thanks anyway for the patience and for answering.
