okay my problem is I have several different pieces of equipment, sowhen I total just the field name part description, it totals them all together which gives me the whoel quantity of 300 instead of individual quantities

I'm so sorry to have confused you. To not lead you astray
again, please post several rows of your table, and
indicate what total you'd like the report to calculate,
and I'll get back to you right away.

I've been making assumptions that may not be valid.

Ok in the Report, It looks like thi
(its grouped by part description already

Part Description Model# Serial # (Header

Chassis lkk';l';l 454654
o;imu;o 54564
iuniun;oi 6541654 (detail

2X(:1) Combiner ijhijoijmi; 5465465
'kp'ok'pok 5466546

Fuse Panel kjl;k';lk';lk 65454
hulh;kjkl;lkjm 6546546

ETC...what I need is for after it finishes listing the chassis give me a total of them and them after it's done listing the 2x(:1) combiners to give me a total...etc...sorry about all that-just takes to long to post, anwyays thanks for the help...I fee l like drop kicking this computer off my desk!!!Even though it's operator error

OK, open the report in Design view and click View, Sorting
and Grouping. Highlight the Part Description field. In
the Properties table, change Group Footer to yes, and
close the window.

Now add a text box to the Group Footer that will count the
number of records per group...

Set the text box' Control Source to:

=Count([PartDescription])

If this is placed in the REPORT footer or the Detail
section, it will count the total number of records, rather
than a subtotal for each group.

Please tell me you're golden... :^)

OK; hang in there...

Please post (by cutting and pasting from the Properties:

- The Control Source of the Part Description control (Data
Tab)
- The Name of the Part Description control (Other Tab)
- The Control Source of the summary control in the Group
Footer

Tina,

I've duplicated this exact situation, and it works
perfectly. There must be something I'm not seeing. <grr>

If you wish, you can copy the database, remove all of your
proprietary data (keeping the table structures and other
objects), and email the empty database to me.

Otherwise, I suggest you repost. No doubt one of the
MVP's can diagnose what's causing the problem.

Ok. I'm going to send it to you, but from my personal email so I can get it from home....Hey, thanks a lot!!!!

I haven't received it, Tina. You may want to check the
spelling of my last name. 95 out of 100 people spell
it "sprinkle". :^)

Tina,

I still haven't received your email. I sent myself one as
a test, and received in a minute or two. Maybe cut and
paste from my previous post?

Best regards.

I did! I mispelled it....! I resent it this
morning....sorry :)

Not at all, but something's wrong; I still haven't
received your email. The problem may be with Netscape; I
just reactivated that account yesterday. Although it did
accept my test email...

How about giving me a call, and I'll give you an email
address that I maintain. I'd rather not broadcast it to
the spammers.

Geez, you must think I'm a nut. I do know what I'm
doing, though it may seem like I don't. I sent it from my
personal email...maybe it will go now from there.... :)

Tina,

The file is too big to be accepted. Please copy the
entire database from Explorer, delete unnecessary records
(leave a few) from the table(s) of interest and all other
necessary objects, then Compact and Repair again.

My acceptance file limit is stated as 2 MB, but I suspect
is somewhat smaller, so be sure its somewhat less than
that at a maximum.

Please send it to the following address:

(e-mail address removed)

Best regards. We'll get this solved yet...hang in there!
