Lets stop knocking Vista

Why does every one want to knock it? I've been using Vista since RC1 and I
like it, for me it has been very stable. Yes it is different, but thats what
every one said about XP at the time and now at least in this forum every one
is singing it's praises.

One of the biggest hurdles when developing new software is maintaining
backwards compatibility and at some point in order to move forward you have
to sacrifice that compatibility. I'd rather see Windows move forward than be
compatible with Office 97 just because Joe Bloggs likes it more because he
is used to it.

Software compatibility issues aren't something that Microsoft invented
either. Apple also had similar compatibility issues when they launched OS 9
and OS X.

We're all going to be using / supporting Vista in the near future so lets be
more productive with our time and stop putting Vista down and try and
resolve faults rather than moan about them.

Rich,

I agree. I have RC2 installed and I really enjoy it alot. Once all the
hardware manufacturers get their vista drivers tested and release, it's
ready for prime time.

After SP2 (except for the lame compacting for OE).

YES...THANK-YOU...finally someone without a "I hate Microsoft" attitude! To
the naysayers; if you don't like it; stay away! End of discussion! I come
to this newsgroup to learn and grow. There are already too many bad
attitudes in the world; I don't need to read it here! Seems like you could
do something better with your time!

Hi,

I am not sure what you meant by "knocking" Vista? Is it for the
functionalities-wise, or the intensive talk about the nature of the license?

If you meant by functionalities, I do agree with you and it could be very
subjective based on personal and company's needs.

If on the other hand, it's about the nature of the license and WGA practice,
I would suggest you to separate the issue with your experience with the OS,
and they are not the same thing.

Especially if you really like the OS and plan to use/play it intensively,
you have to seriously consider if limiting one transfer will ALL you need
for the it.

That means you will not absolutely positively replace any major components
during the next 5 years after you installed the OS to your "existing" or
"new" system, and that you are willing to let WGA to wandering around your
system and sending information back to his mother whenever it wishes.

Please reckon that people against the kind of practice might already include
the possibility for buying and using the OS (or they won't care about it at
all).

So, please noted that it's not about the childish debate for which is the
best OS for which I never participated, it's about the privacy and usage
right of a product especially when a consumer does not have no other choices
in today's market.

Finally, please also consider for your fellows and peers. If you will not
replace anything and have God's mercy for the system never failed on you,
will you mind those who have different situations could have more options?

ONE OS FOR ONE PC IS A FAIR DEAL! Isn't it? or you'd like to pay more than
that?

Those are the issues to consider!

This is a great attitude. LOL Kind of the Anti-Science stance of Bush.

Why use Penicillin against Syphillis when you can inject mercury?
Why use embryonic stems for Parkinson's, to impact diabetes, lymphoma,
leukemia?
Why use any of the innovations Ray Ozzie has promoted?
Why is MSFT constantly acquiring new companies?

Many of us have bugged Vista and tried to show the tin ears how to make it
better and they have arrogantly resisted. Simple as that. Major components
are broken and should have been fixed and they aren't.

It's easier to get them fixed prior to RTM than later and many of them won't
be. I think the fact that many of us want them fixed so we don't have to
futz with them on the newsgroups later thorougly deflates a broad brush
stroke of a "I hate MSFT" label. Many of us have a pretty good knowledge of
Windows that would have been hard to acquire if we "hated MSFT" as the
monolithic simple perception mischaracterized in this thread.

We also know that MSFT tech support for the masses is Convergys of Ohio
outsourced jobs to India with the poorest training and knowledge of Windows
and Office imaginable and English that is unintelligible which is one
compelling reason to help MSFT customers.

I completely agree with Chad's response above.

When we complain about things, its not because we "hate MSFT", its because
we're trying to make this release better and its frustrating to see bugs make
it through from one build to another after we've bugged them to death.

Seeing a major power management bug in Beta 2 and seeing it again, in its
exact same form, in 5744 (RC2) is just disheartening and frustrating as a
beta tester.

If you only see our negative comments as pure "Anti-MSFT" or "hate MSFT"
attitude then I just feel sorry for you and your attitude.

If you were being being careful; you wouldn't get Syphillis. LOL:)

Yes, I agree; there are still many problems with Vista, but some people go
way overboard with their off the wall comments. This is after all, a place
to get technical input and problem sovling ideas from people testing Vista.
You know; people looking to get on track sooner rather than later. I can
appreciate constructive criticism, but have you honestly read some of these
posts? Microsoft is just like every other business and I am not here to
debate corporate greed. I only am here to learn!

It is my personal opinion that politics have no place in this discussion
group. We're were talking about soup and all the nuts come out! But of
course you will just rant on and I will skip evey post that I see from you
and the others that feel like you do. And it's too bad too; because you
could most likely really do some good here!

Hi,
I only am here to learn!

Well said (as people always done than the actual behavior), but learning is
also to know something not so pretty and even ugly.

Accepting things only you wish to accept is not learning, but
self-reinforcing your existing thoughts.

So are you here for learning or just to reinforce your existing ideas?

Hi xfile,

I am here to only to learn! If I want to see the ugliness in the world I
just need to pick up a paper, turn on the news or walk out of my door. I
value other's opinions and points of view and I am always willing to
re-consider my existing stand. SO I apologize, but only to the true Vista
testers. Your "Constructive Criticism", input and viewpoints; good or bad
are always important. That's why we are here, to make it better!

To the others; what can I say, if the shoe fits - wear it! You know who you
are!

always learning

Skip away. Glad you're only reading the sophisticated, nuanced
constructive syncophants with quality Windows knowledge and insights.

Hi,

Always have the same attitude for people's comments. If one wishes to
respond with different thoughts and ideas on rational basis, that's fine. If
one thinks that's not worthy to respond or for whatever reasons not to
respond, that's fine too.

I have been using/recommending this company's products since 1985 (oops, now
you could guess my age) and also used this company for positive cases
studies during the past 20 years, but that will not "blind" me for not
seeing something shouldn't happen or could be done with a better way.

That at least to me is what learning is all about.

The really problem is many know how to turn on their computer and sufer the
web but when it comes to the license part ? Most are clueless , They always
seem to learn when its to late

Hi,

I apologize for not being able to provide links that stated Paul's statement
isn't correct and with more tangible evidences including statements written
by the company.

PS: I guess a search on ZDNet or Google might help to find them. My last
recollection is that I read and compared, at least, articles from these two
sources before summarizing personal conclusion.

I will be so glad that I was wrong and MS was unfairly treated by me (for
both WGA and retail license), and I will have no problems to apologize and
to all people I talked to.

But I will be waiting with all contingency plans ready when it is formally
released.

I was shocked at PT's article. I couldn't believe my eyes as I read it. If
PT had been in the room with me I might 'a punched him. It was the first
time I thought the words "You liar" when reading PT's stuff and I've read
quite a bit of it and some of it's been outlandish. He backtracked a bit a
day or two later when he published Koroush Ghazi's article. But even Ghazi's
article was terribly lame in my opinion and certainly didn't express my full
sentiment on the matter.

You know I really don't think microsoft will keep this eula when vista is
finale but if they do ? They are just shooting themself in the head , Piracy
copies , Apple or Linux will just grow

I can't understand it. Why hurt the customer? Especially the enthusiast /
hobbiest customer? Because some statisician says so? Let's have some honour
here.

I hope they throw out this new EULA and I hope they throw out the forced WGA
N or whatever it is they call it now.
