my recently downloaded copy of ie6 takes anything up to 5
(yes that's five) minutes to load any page from a new
site, including my home page each time i start explorer.

pages from a site i already have open can take the same
amount of time to open in a new window as well.

pages from an existing site open at normal speed if they
are being linked to in the existing window.

i have downloaded ie6 three times now in case it was a
roblem with the download and it's the same each time.

i use aol as me server and have just gone to aol 8.

when i had ie5 and aol 6 i had none of these problems. can
i do anyting about or am i stuck.

That could be a caching problem (as in... no cache).

Have you set you Temporary Internet Settings to disallow cache? Or set it
very small?
You ought to have it set to at least 10 MB... but more is better... up to a
point.

But perhaps more importantly, check the installed components in IE....

In IE: Click Tools/ Internet Options/ then, in the Temporary Internet Files
section/ click Settings, then View Objects
Delete any items that do not have a STATUS of "Installed" (i.e. damaged, or
unknown)

I have seen very bizarre behavior in IE, when there are damaged and unknown
items listed there. It may be that what is causing the severe lags, is due
to something in there which is not working properly - or interfering with
what IE is trying to do.

Please post back with your results.

Good luck,
