Lengthy Boot Cycle on 64bit Vista

I'm running Vista - Business 64 bit on two
nearly identical machines. Both are dual
Opteron 250's. One has 8GB of ram and
the other has 12GB. The machine with
the larger ram takes a full five minutes to
boot. After it first flashes the MS screen,
it then sits dark for what seems like forever.
If left alone, it will eventually finish the boot
cycle.

By way of comparison, the machine with the
smaller amount of ram boots in less than a minute.

Anybody got any idea what is going on here?

how do they compare with items that run at startup.

I had to use Scheduled Tasks to postpone several programs from starting till 2 minutes after startup.

a different question. do you find the opteron's are faster than a normal athlon.

why did you pick the opteron's.

There is probably a driver or a startup program causing a problem. I'm sure
there's an easier way to get to this but here goes: Right click on My
Computer, pick Properties, on the bottom left click on Performance, in the
middle left click on Advanced. At the top of the window you will see
Performance Issues. This is the first place to look for whaetver is causing
a slow boot.

Some other common causes are: misconfigured network settings and redirected
My Documents.

its a simple HTML "marquee" tag... and quite annoying. dont do it since most people yell when you post html to a NG
