I'm not sure I'm in the right group for this, but here goes...I need to find
out what the legal characters are for usernames for an application that
needs to use NT authentication. I have 2 web-based applications and 2
Windows applications that are supposed to use a common security model, and
we are finding that certain characters in usernames break one of
the web apps. The Windows apps need to support NT authentication, so I need
to know what characters I might encounter in a username so my web developers
can work around 'em. I haven't been able to find a definitive answer
anywhere - can anyone here help?

Open Users and Computers

Attempt to add new user with a pre-W2K logon name of / and then click next, read
the popup.

Many thanks! I wish I'd thought to try that before spending hours googling
for an answer. Who knew it'd be that simple?

Yeah one would hope it would be easily documented somewhere but I don't recall
ever hitting it, I did know though that the GUI will tell you. :)
