Left Mouse Click goes to Search, not Open

I've had my Dell laptop running XP Pro for several years. In the past, when
I open "My Computer", and left click on the C Drive icon (or any drive for
that matter) the "Open" command occurred, and a window opened showing the
contents of the drive (if I right clicked, "Open" was highlighted at the top
of the right click option menu).

Somewhere along the way this changed. Now a left click opens up a "Search"
window (and now "Search" is highlighted at the top of the right click option
menu). In order to get to "Open" instead of "Search" I have to right click,
and scroll down to select "Open". I really want it back the old way!

So, how do I restore "Open" as the default action for a left mouse click
(which would also put it back on top of the right click menu)?
