Hi, I can't seem to find the answer to this question. I have a database for
multiple users with a front and back end. Its main function is to use a
series of forms for user input and produce a 4-5 page report that gets sent
as a .snp output to a location on our server.
I'm looking at Steven Lebans' converter. Looks like thought, I'd have to
install the .dll files somewhere that really wont work for us. The Front end
exists on the user's desktop where the back end exists on the server. Where
could I place these files, and how could it work for multiple users on a
server?
Thanks,
Varvara

The README form clearly states to copy the files into the same folder as the
front end.

Thank you. Yes, I saw that, but as my users are copying the front end to
their desktop, does that mean they will have to copy the .dll files there as
well? I wanted to avoid them having to do this.

You can have a shortcut on the users Desktop pointed back to the folder of
your choosing. I have never heard of an app installing itself onto the
Desktop directly. So my answer to your question is...I don't know, as I have
never tried copying the 2 DLL's to the Desktop and run a Frontend from
there. Give it a try.

Stephen, I thought the users had to copy the front end to their desktop so
that multiple users could be in the database at the same time. I'm new at
this and maybe I got this backwards? Is it only a shortcut that needs to
point to the front end?
Isn't there also an automatic front end updater for this purpose as well, to
update the front end on the user's desktop when I update it on the server.
Maybe I've got it all wrong. I really appreciate your helping me.

The frontend should be copied to the user's hard drive, but it doesn't need
to be copied to their desktop. (Desktop is the name of the folder where the
objects that appear on the screen live).

Stephen's suggesting that the database be copied to some folder on their
hard drive, and that you create a shortcut on their Desktop that points to
the database wherever it is on their hard drive.
