leaving and returning to a network w/o logging off

I have a user with a rather unique problem. She is a tech who unplugs from
our Win2003-based domain, plugs into another network and then comes back.
She would like to not have to log out and back in again to be able to access
network resources (specifically file shares). Is there a way to "ping" the
domain controller to say "yo, I'm back, can I use the file server again"
without loggin out?

Thanks,

Steve

I have seen a product called Mobile Net Switch, that lets a user set up
multiple 'profiles' for different networks, along with storing login
information. Rather than having to go through the normal logon screen,
the user just selects the profile they want, and the login information
is sent.

Kind of a nice timesaver. Not sure if that's what you're looking for
though......

No you can't. You have to log out,...you have to get a new compatible
TCP/IP config for each network when you move. I think she is just being
lazy,..log off, power down, unplug,....plugin, powerup, login,...rinse &
repeat. Even with products like NetSwitcher (www.netswitcher.com) it only
handles adjusting to different network environments,...it does not
preclude,..."log off, power down, unplug,....plugin, powerup, login".

Thanks. I was worried afterwards that you'd get "excited" over my comment
about her being "lazy" :-)
I wasn't saying it in "anger",...just stating what I suspect the case is.
You could try out Netswitcher and see how it deals with it for sure (I've
never used it),..but I think it will be as I described.

No. That specifically ocurred to me when she initially described the
problem. It would have been rude for me to say that. Thankyou for saying
what I was thinking ;-).

Some years ago (back in when we had a novell-based network and everyone was
an admin) I tried to use netswitched for folks to move between the office
and their static-ip DSL home networks. My recollection is that it was
exactly what you said. It was a tool to swap out groups of network settings.
It did no logging in or out.

That said, that was a few years ago and it may do more now.

Cheers,

Steve
