Do not be fooled by all the hype :
Windows 7 is full of bugs and missing features. Some common hardware which is
correctly set up by vista will need drivers and manual interactions in 7.
They simply removed a ton of drivers in the 7 DVD.
1. BUG Explorer does not show the new thumbnail, if you have
changed, cropped, resized a jpg. you cannot tell which file is newer if you
have copies of one and the same file, you need to compare date/time and
filesize.
2. BUG Windows Mediaplayer forgets that you already completed the first-run
wizard, it will appear at random times again and again.
3. No-GO Windows Messenger is a pain in the xxx - the new taskbar/systray
makes it impossible to operate the program like we were used to in xp and
vista. You have two messenger thumbnails in the taskbar, but only one is
functional
4. BUG/No-Go : Aero is stuttering - My Radeon 9600 was running smooth as
silk under Vista, but with the same drivers is choppy and slow under Win7.
The same is true for Geforce 5200 ( which Win7 not even recognizes and runs
it as Standard VGA while Vista has the aero-drivers for it )
5. MISSING FEATURES : I am used to use Windows Calendar,Mail, the new
Adressbook and Fax and Scan on a daily base . In Windows 7 only Fax and Scan
plus the Adress-book is left. There is no Calendar ( 3rd party wont plug in
like the Vista one ) and no Windows Mail.
You have to use the "Live Mail" app, which is a bloated piece of xxx . The
calendar inside this "Live Mail" is a no-go, because it syncs to Hotmail
online, which I do not want to. I want to have my schedules offline and
private only to me. Also "LiveMail brings in its own Adress-book, which is
set to sync with the Messenger-List of contacts and plugs not into the
already given system adress-book.
6: MISSING FEATURES : Where the hell is Vistas Aero-aware Moviemaker ?
Neither the downloadable WMM 2.6 ( in fact the old boring XP app ) nor "Live
MovieMaker" ( a joke ) are replacements for it. I am used to produce Videos
with Vistas one and put them later on DVD.
7.MISSING FEATURE/ BUG ? : The network indicator in Vista will show f there
is actvitiy in the line, if you set it to. The one in 7 says NOTHING and has
no options.
8: BUG / No-Go : Windows 7s Wireless LAN - indicator and program is full of
bugs and causes wireless to go crazy. At one time you can connect to a
hotspot, only to find out later that it drops the connection by itself and
tells you "The network adaptor does not meet the specifications" ..
9: WHERE ARE THE HELP--VIDEOS ?? Vista has a nice help-system , ideally
suited for beginners ( I recommended Vista alone for that feature to
newbies ) and comes with great self-running videos.. I cannot find one of
them in 7 ?? I guess - if ever- they are only online only like so much in 7.
By all means : this OS is not a replacement for Vista. It is only a tad
faster than Vista ( With SP2 and all Bugfixes and some speed tweaks applied
I can hardly find a difference between Vista and 7 ) but has so many issues
and missing functions ( and a hall of shame of missing drivers that were in
vista but have been removed - I needed to manually set up my LAN and search
the xp drivers for it in 7 where Vista has detected and set up the complete
computer on its own) , that you are safe to not buy it.
Vista is not dependant on a internet connection and does not force you to
use "Live ID" services for even basic casual work.
Win7 is crippled and you NEED internet plus LIVE ID to make even use of it,
set it up and handle it on a daily base ( with its crippled features )
I am proudly back inside my Vista today. I learned to love it !
