I use Access as a database for my library. One of the columns is for the
ISBN number. When these begin with a zero Access removes it/them. So far I
have got around this problem by using 0. before entering the number.

In Excel this can be got around by formatting the column as text but this
option does not seem to be present in Access.

Has anyone used a better way of combating this issue in Access?

You write:

"You can format a value of numeric data type in Access to show leading
zeros"

I am using Access 2003 and I cannot find a link in the menus that leads me
to this formatting process. Can you indicate the method please?

In a table (or query), look at the Properties for the field. There's a
Format property. If you want, say, eight digits, you'd set the format to
00000000 (eight zeroes in a row)
