Hi,

Is it possible to install LDIFDE on a Win2K Pro machine? I know that it
is on the Win2K Server, but I'd like to be able to run it from a Win2K
Pro workstation.

Thanks in advance...

No.

Actually yes. Simply copy the files from a server to the workstation.

Extract from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/administration/redir-ldifde.asp

NOTE: This tool is very flexible and offers a number of command-line switches and arguments.
The utility is included in Windows 2000 Server, but not with Windows 2000
Professional. The LDIFDE program can be copied to a computer running
Windows 2000 Professional and be run remotely against the Windows 2000
Server Active Directory.

Doh! Totally forgot about that; I was thinking of how adminpak
doesn't install LDIFDE on a Pro box. Nice catch.

M@,

Thanks!

I know that I could've just tried this myself, but FYI, the original reason
that I posted my inquiry was that I thought that I'd tried this (running
LDIFDE.exe on Win2K Pro) awhile ago, and got an error.

I tried it again after your post below, and it's now working. Strange....

Laura,

I have just logged a call about a possible bug in ldifde. Basically I am
trying to export users of a domain, rename the domain in the resultant
file and reimport to the destination. The output however has wrapped the
text. This is not due to notepad. For example the membership information
will be in the format of CN=xxxx,DC=AD,DC=DOMAIN,DC=Intern
al

Where the DN should not have been wrapped as internal is one word. I hope
this makes sense to you. I might end up using csvde instead but csvde I
cant modify. Only import at one go. I think thats correct :0)

Have you seen this text wrapping behaviour your self?

Another possible bug is that the ldifde -f test.ldf -r
"(objectClass=user)" -l "DN,objectClass,memberof" is returning both user
and computer objects. Is it just me? I have given up troubleshooitng
logged a call and am about to use csvde instead.
