LDB file cannot be deleted.

There is an ldb file associated to the Access db I am working on that cannot
be deleted. It is preventing me from compacting the database or opening the
db by double clicking on the file name. I just want to replace the mdb file
with a backup copy but it won't let me delete the file from the server. I
would prefer not to have to rename the database file if I can because we have
documentation referring to the particular filename. Any ideas on what I can
do? Thanks.
 
Your server admin should be able to delete the file. He'll first need to
make sure that no one is connected to it. I've only seen one instance in 17
years where the file would just not be deleted no matter what. We waited
until the server wasn't in use, the rebooted it, and the lock was broken. We
could then delete the file.

I've never seen a locked file whose file handle couldn't be closed
from the server control panel.

As I stated, only once in 17 years. I guess I'm lucky <lol>

I suspect that the sysadmin involved was not entirely competent, as
there is simply no way a file can remain open when you use the
provided tools to close the open file handle.
