Hi!

I have an application that I have developed on a Win2K3 server using vb.net.
The application binds itself to an LDAP provider, which is the name of an
active directory domain, ie LDAP://DC=TEST,DC=LOCAL

The application works fine on this server.

I have just installed an XP workstation into that domain, and I know that
DNS etc is fine because firstly the machine is IN the domain, and I can ping
test.local, fo instance.

However, when I try to run the application from the workstation, I receive
an error that the domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

I know the LDAP string I am using is correct, so what could the problem
be???

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks

Phil

I can help you if you post a little more code. I don't really know what
it is you are trying to do. It may be as simple as permissions. Do you have
read access to active directory, at least at the domain level at which you
are binding to?

Also, you should try to bind to the domain as dynamically as possible, I
think a domain can be renamed in 2003 so take that into account.

Dim Root As New DirectoryEntry("LDAP:/RootDSE")
Dim DomainNamingContext As String =
Root.Properties("defaultNamingContext").Value
Root = New DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" & DomainNamingContext)

Sorted! The user was not logged on to the domain.

I suspect I should be checking this before the app runs!
