lcd configuration tool?

Hi ppls,

Just wondering, whats the best way to configure the colours,
brightness/contrast of an lcd, or if there is a good tool that does such a
thing?

I had a friend who is into professional graphics and he came over with
his Spyder by Colorvision and used it to calibrate my Dell 20" 2001FP.
It made a world of difference. I went on Amazon afterwards and found
one for $130.
