LCD Cannot display video mode

I'm trying to set a video mode (60 Hertz refresh) that is compatible
with my new LCD monitor. It is currently set to 85 Hertz. I never had a
chance to change it to 60 Hertz before my old CRT monitor died.

I booted into Safe Mode thinking I could set a lower refresh and then
reboot. But when it's in Safe Mode the display properties doesn't give
me a choice of refresh rates - all it says is "default refresh" for
every resolution mode. So it's impossible to specify the refresh rate.
When I boot normally I just get "Cannot Display Video Mode" on my
monitor.

Anyone know how I can get out of this mess?

It is unclear whether the monitor is displaying. If so, the 60Hz refresh
rate likely is in force as it was automatically here when an LCD was
installed after using a CRT at 85Hz. No other refresh rate is now
available, which is as it should be.

Hi,

From safe mode, uninstall the display drivers, then restart normally. This
should cause the system to use a VGA driver, then you can (re)install and
correctly configure the right one.

Rather than using Safe Mode, boot into VGA Mode and then set the
display (resolution, refresh rate, and/or number of colors) to something
that your monitor can handle. Consult its manual to determine
acceptable settings. Reboot one more time, into normal mode. Updating
the computer's video drivers might also help.
