Hello,
I recently bought a Sony LCD monitor (SDM-S53). It has its ups (no geometry
problems, vivid, bright, slick) , but I noticed that text doesn't appear as
crisp as it was on CRT and somtimes borders of text have this purple tone
(it's not significant but it's still visible) instead of a normal tone (for
example :blue border for blue text, etc.) is it a common issue for LCD
monitors? Is there a way to reduce it?

Turn off font smoothing in your display settings and be sure you are running
in the displays native resolution.

Maybe you're running anti-aliasing? Sometimes it uses colored fringes
instead of shades of grey.

Turn off or down anti-aliasing, if you are.

Is aliasing=smooth font edges?
if not, where can i find control over anti-aliasing?

btw, turning off font smoothing results in a weak font, is there a way to
make the font more readble but witout the fringing?

thanks,

I don't have any of those problems with my Princeton VL1916 19" LCD?
That doesn't sound normal. Maybe you need to exchange it for another
is you are still in your 30days?

Good thinking! I had forgot about that one. If it's on, it
makes it look fuzzy, when off it's very sharp. For me anyway.

aliasing ~= jaggies

Make it bold, or pick a thicker font. One designed for low-res use is
better.
