Hi Randy

A lot of users misses how this plugin works......

“The first phase completed. Please reboot and perform a Smart Scan"

So reboot, change "Scan now" to "Smart scan" and perform a scan.
Clean all found VX2 objects and run the plugin again.

This tool left some "jasdfhg.exe" if it is a Aurora infection.

So this tool, Ewido and CCleaner must probably be used.

Hi Randy, is this a new update of the VX2 cleaner?
I'm wondering because I think I've had that for quite a few months: is it
possible?
Thanks!
Steff

Hi Guys

This is the same VX2 cleaner thats been available since early August, before
that the new version was available but in beta and needed manually installing
into the plugin folder then they released it out of beta which auto installs,

It a good thing to let people know its available as it works great against
Aurora,

AdAware are moving Aurora from the VX2 name as its not strictly the VX2
infection but Im sure the cleaner will still remove it,

AdAware sent this with the latest definition file SE1R70 due out later this
week "updates to the Aurora content (previously assigned to the VX2 family),
will be renamed to ABetterInternet.Aurora to lessen the confusion of users
from the various naming schemes from vendor to vendor"

Check the definitions later in the week for this def file. Aurora has
changed abit now using the name "The Best Offers" on pop ups and the
Add/Remove screen even though its still using the same named files, the htm
file in the windows folders that gets displayed when the user clicks the
add/remove screen entry has changed names and some of the infecting files are
possibly new variants but hopefully AdAware are keeping up with them although
they have stopped most of the No EULA silent installs and removed themselves
from the bundled malware infections recently.

Regards

Andy

I downloaded the VX2 update, but can't figure out how to run it. How do you find it in the AdAware progarm after installation? Please be specific for us "not-so-techies" out here. Thanks

Hi MaDonna

Get Adaware SE installed then download the plug-in :

http://updates.ls-servers.com/vx2cleaner_inst.exe

Run the installer and follow the screen prompts and it then installs into
this folder:

C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE \Plugins

Open Ad-Aware

From the main menu choose "Add-Ons"

Click the VX2 cleaner entry and then press "Run Tool" , it will then give a
pop up window asking if it can execute the tool , Click ok and it then scans
the system and will probably then display "System Clean" unless you do have
Aurora or VX2 on the system.

It it finds files it will then ask you to reboot and run a smart scan, Most
of the infected files with be removed as you reboot and any remaining traces
will be removed in the smart scan when the system restarts.

Sorry about that, I had thought that the URL was self-explanatory enough.
Andy's addressed your question, please post back if you need more help.
