Launching SmartClient in IE7

I have a query regarding launching a .NET smart client application via ASP.
The smart client application is launched via asp - client side VB Script
using "window.open()" passing in the URL location of the smart client. Using
IE 6.0, this works fine and a window appears momentarily while the smart
client is loaded. As soon as the smart client application is initiated, the
new window closes automatically. When running this on IE 7.0 the "temporary"
window remains open and must be closed manually. Is there any other way that
I can launch my smart client to maintain the behaviour of IE 6.0?

Not that it will make you feel better, but iTunes has the same behavior you
are commenting on here. When I click on a link in an e-mail from apple, it
brings up IE to kick off iTunes, and always leaves an IE window up asking
me if I want to close it. Now, Apple is not a supreme being (no matter what
they think), but you would think if Apple could change that behavior, they
would. So maybe it can't be done.
