launch multiple applications simultaneously

We come across a problem to launch multiple applications
simultaneously, that only one application can be launched.
To reproduce this issue:
Select multiple applications from an application suite by
pressing shift and arrow key. Press enter. Only the last
application of selected applications will be launched.

I've noticed that. I think it's normal for XP for whatever reason, but I
sure miss the ability. Careful though, if you're trying to open Files, not
Applications, then it'll depend on the application whether one or all files
open.
I used to make the selections, then right click Open in 98; guess it went
by the wayside in xp.

MVP's; is there a way to select multiple apps and start them all with one
click?
