Hi Mae,
I love reading this group. The best entertainment online.>
Thanks! That's the nicest thing I've heard today. We do try to be helpful
here, and the entertainement is a great ice breaker.

Linuxgirl, really?
Lemme guess. You're fat and ugly. You wear glasses, have
no friends and nobody likes you either. You're alone
today and you'll always be.
"Lets diss MS coz its cool to be an MS basher " Go get a
life. Pull your head out of your ass.

Those were your "arguments"?

You know....that's just pure nonsense....(or wishful thinking) :)

You haven't run Linux systems much have you. My Windoze systems are
constantly being assaulted with viruses, spyware, hijackers, etc. They
are well protected by third party software but the point is...that
should not be necessary. My Linux systems never.....never have a problem. :)

Hey....have fun with your beta...............:)

Please provide some statistics or substantial information to back your
claim. I have a feeling you are an enthusiast, not an expert. In order to
make such claims that Linux is more stable than newer versions of Windows
(XP SP2 and 2003 Server), you best know them both inside and out, which I
don't believe you do. I would put my money on XP SP2 and 2003 Server, but
I'm not a Red Hat expert either.

Why is this wishful thinking? Please expound a bit - otherwise, why are you
in this newsgroup? Eavesdropping? Snooping? Bored as hell? ;-)

"My Windoze systems are constantly being assaulted with viruses, spyware, hijackers, etc."

You obviously have no clue how to manage a Windows system.. Mine has no problems at all. Better yet, why don't you tell me what you are doing to protect your Windows system(s)? What operating systems?

Ya know, you sound like some coworkers I have. They complain and complain about Windows. So you know what? I went to one of the servers they managed and ran MBSA (ever hear of that?) on the server - 37 CRITICAL updates missing. The report was about 10 pages long. THAT, my dear friend, is the problem with people like you. You don't know how to take care of a Windows machine.

My configuration:
I run Spyware Blaster, which populates IE and Firefox with known bad sites and ActiveX controls - very useful.
I run Spyware Guard - I may uninstall this one - MSAS is catching everything these days.
I run MSAS beta - I'm very happy with it so far.
I run periodic AdAware scans to see if anything was missed by MSAS - normally only cookies, which MSAS does not block.
I run Norton AV to address viruses - looking forward to the new MS AV product coming out soon.
I periodically run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool to ensure I'm clean of major threats. I am.
I have my host-based firewall enabled - comes with XP.
Upgraded to SP2 - there are many benefits including pop-up blockers, improved file handling, etc.
Made my HOSTS file read-only. See http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm.
I have WUS installed at my workplace for deploying patches - I'm always up to date, and manage our in-house patch management solution.

I am probably missing a few things, but you can't just sit on your hands and expect any OS to be completely free from attacks. To implement this list, relatively little time is needed. What have you done to secure your server? Obviously you aren't very educated on Windows if you are having so many problems.

I have uninstalled both of them to check out MSAS protection.

Have this testpage for this.......... ;)

http://www.cracks.ru/ dont try it without protection.

Maybe I'll try it with another computer - this one is much too important
(personal finances, work docs, school stuff, etc).

Thanks for the link!

I never "complain" about Windows. I think it's funny and I just put up
with it because I have to in certain instances.

You're missing several things if yoiu want to really secure MS systems. :)

You sound like a young person dedicated to Microsoft because that's all
you know......and you don't know that as well as you believe you do.

Have fun........:)

When I "plays" with Linux I always get broken librarys, lib
that and that.......
To much boring work and endless "Howtos"..........

Please, anybody with any knowledge at all of operating
systems knows that Linux/Unix are more stable than anything
MS puts out.

What do you think Google uses? What do you think those new
supercomputers use? Do you know what those "farms" of
computers use a an OS? What do you think Yahoo uses as an
OS? Ebay? The Armed Forces Flight Simulator?

Most of the webhosting companies use Unix/Linux if they can
help it. I know, I worked for one of such companies. The MS
servers were a joke, they were always coming off line
without any reason. There was an unspoken assertion that
whoever touched the Unix/Linux servers would be hanged
because they never, ever, went down by themselves.

Google uses over 100,000 computers running Linux as the
best search engine up to date. The Titanic movie was
rendered on a farm of 4,000 computers running Linux. I can
go on and on, but I don't want to bog down this MS system.

If those statistics do not please you I suggest that you go
ahead and read up about it.

Thank you for your attention.

For large corporations, open source saves a lot of cash. I would bet they
don't have their customer service personnel on Linux. Wanna bet? I'm not
talking EBay and Amazon - I'm talking the average company and home user.

Are YOU a Windows expert? You seem to know a lot about Linux and Unix.
Have you seen the US-CERT bulletins? The *nix lists are longer than
Windows - why? Please enlighten me.

I'm not on AD - tell me more oh LinuxGurl. I would bet you can't tell me
anything I don't know - I told you that was off the top of my head.
Furthermore, I have never had the time to learn *nix - you are correct. I'm
a SQL Server DBA and IIS Administrator - would YOU like to train me on
something else? I didn't think so - I make a healthy living doing what I'm
doing.
