I know this is old, but I'm setting it up as an internet computer only.
It's a Latitude XP 1400CX, 486 processor, 20MB ram, Windows 95 (version A I
think, this video thing pisses me off anymore and it'll be 98 soon). I have
messed with the video drivers and I cannot get the screen to work at 800x600
resolution. It will only run at 640x480. If I move it to 800x600 it says
my adapter type is wrong. I downloaded the drivers from the site, and can't
get it to work. I tried the "Western Digital" and "Western Digital (512)"
and even a driver from driver-guide.com from NeoMagic for the model, but
none of these work. Does this thing support 800x600 with Windows 95 at all?
Do I need to go to Windows 98? I read on some Japanese site you need
special drivers to make 800x600 work, but they didn't say anything about
where to get the drivers...this is driving me crazy.

Thanks,

Smith

Yes I'm sure it's the model. I used the service tag (2R0SB) and it popped
up "Latitude XP 4__" The laptop case says it's a Latitude XP and the BIOS
says it's a 4100CX so I know it's the right driver. That link takes me to
nothing, but the Dell site has the "NeoMagic NM2070" under video drivers for
both my service tag model and the "Latitude XP 4__" in general model.

My point was you used 1400CX which is incorrect.
The link takes you to the only drivers Dell has for your
machine, which is a Win95 one.

No, I didn't, the CX part is not listed on the Dell site at all. They have
generic drivers for all "Latitude XP 4__" models with Windows 95 which is
what I used. I included the CX part in my post just as information since it
was listed in my BIOS as a 4100CX model. Dell clumps them all together
since the video chipsets were all the same between the 4100C, 4100CX, and
4100T models.

Have you bothered to read the subject line of this thread? Instead of
trying to correct me? You're the one who misidentified the machine.

Dude just forget it. I listed the model in case any had experience with it,
sorry for trying to give someone information to work with. All models have
the same video chipset, all models have the same driver download on the site
and as I said in my original post I tried the Dell site drivers, and as you
pointed out those are the only drivers anywhere on the site for it, and they
didn't work.

(Top posting to preserve existing format and facts.)

The OP may be dyslexic unable to see difference between 1400 and 4100.
