LaTeX Editor for WinXP

I'm looking for a good freeware LaTeX editor for WinXP. I'm currently
using WinEdt. Something with compiling functions and syntax
highlighting built in would be nice.
 
syn which was mentioned here recently seems to work well.

I use Dirk Stuve's WinTeXShell32 'cause it's the only one I've found which
supports Windows Pen Services Handwriting Recognition.

Texnicenter is an opensource shell which is highly spoken of.

William already mentioned it, and I would recommend TeXNicCenter too.
Although Emacs with the AucTeX and RefTeX extensions are quite
popular too... but it has a learning curve.
