I am writing this from my second boot (Win98). Thank god
for making my system dual-boot and interestingly enough
the long known buggy Win98 is the one functioning?!

I just updated my Win2000 boot with the latest security
patches which popped up on my auto-update. After reboot,
the computer cannot go back into Win2000. It goes upto the
Win2000 logo and then reboots. Going to last configuration
didn't help either. What is the solution?

This is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable. I had to re-install
Windwos after SP4 and now this?! Why Microsoft labels an
untested and buggy patch as "Critical Update". I think
they should say "Critical NOT TO update". I was very happy
with Win2000 until SP4 and later patches. I am just
thinking of moving to Apple so is my company who's had
enough with data loss.

The problem was patch "KB824141". After coing through
Recovery Console and removing this particular patch it
fixed the problem.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD "KB824141" patch, it will make your PC
unsuable.

Did you have antivirus running when you did the updates? Its not uncommon
to see an update only partially install due to that and then render the box
in a looped state.

Is there ay sort of workaround to this?

With Windows ability to know everything else we do with
our computers, is there no way for the Windows update to
be halted if AntiVirus software is running?

Our file store is down until we get this back up.
Thanks

No, Windows does not check for the existance of running services.
Uninstalling the patch would be the fastest way to get back up and running.
