I'm running 2000 SP4 with all current critical updates. Today, I got
into a pickle (later sorted) and tried a manual repair of the system using
the 4 setup disks and the Emergency Repair Disk. At one stage it asked
me to insert the c.d. Service Pack 2. Not having that, and with it not
accepting the SP4 disk, I inserted the original 2000 installation disk.
There was quite a bit of activity, and now I can't be sure that it didn't
overwrite files with earlier versions. I visited Windows Update and all
it had for me was the latest Windows Defender update; however, I don't know
how Windows Update goes about its job: I don't know if it checks all
relevant files to see they are the latest version - somehow I doubt it.
Is there, therefore, an up-to-date list somewhere of the latest version
numbers of all Windows 2000 system files so that I can do a random check of
the file versions on my machine to be sure that I haven't messed things up
too much? Of course, any better suggestions would be much
appreciated.
Many thanks.
