Well, after two or three updates that worked, this latest update,
1.14.1410.10, has failedto update. I am really surprised that microsoft has
put out a piece of crap like this, even in Beta. If IE 7 had this many
bugs.microsoft would be in some deep doo-doo. People on this site should be
on the microsoft payroll since there seems to be no one else working on this
program. I'm really disgusted!

It is open to debate whether WD should qualify as public beta.

In case the WD software engineers are reading this read.
First, the WD is still creating superious restore point. Second,
WD is still having problems updating the signature definitions.
Last, isn't it high time to start discussing the features
(wish list) and malware detection capabilities of WD.

This newest update (1410)worked fine for me. I had problems with 1408
but this one is good.

1410.0 worked for me this time, automatically, but the history of my updates
are the 1st or 2nd auto update will work and then the next won't so I am sure
keeping my fingers crossed that this time it will update EVERY time! Keep
your fingers crossed!!

We are looking into this.

Updates 1408 and 1410 worked automatically for me, though a few previous
updates didn't and I had to use the "run command" fix. There just doesn't
seem to be any rhyme nor reason to it. If only this problem would be
resolved. I've never known an anti-malware program whose definitions cannot
be updated, it sort of defeats the object!

OTOH, some other anti-malware programs are too easily updated. A well known
product in the field is currently under some fire from a self-styled
"security" expert because its definitions are easily subverted.

I'm poking a little fun there--but this is a serious issue--the definition
channel is one involving a binary from the Internet installed and run on
your machine--you want this to be absolutely secure and well authenticated.

I have occasionally had this problem where WU "Cannot install update"
for WD. I am not sure yet, but I suspect that this problem occurs if
the update attempts to install when I have Forte (free) Agent running.
