Last record in detail

What is the best way to leave the detail section of an order entry form that
is in data sheet format and continue with the remainder of the information on
the form. I have found that I can press enter but only after I have gone
through all the fields on the detail section and have entered nothing.

I am assuming that the detail section is a subform. A subform is a control,
just like any other control. It becomes a form when you are inside of it.

In the form's design view, on the menubar go to View >>> Tab Order

and move the Tab Order control closer to the end pf your tab order. Now you
enter it until you've finished other parts of the form.
