Hey Guys,
I’m sure this is a stupid question that has probably been answered several
times but I’m gonna ask anyhow:

If you buy the Ultimate Upgrade of Vista and bought a new hard drive… how
would you go about doing a clean install on the new hard drive?

Thanks for your help on this last minute question.

I just did a search on Upgrade in this news group and came up with over
1,600 messages? You might find your answer faster if you do the same!

You would install Windows XP SP2 (or Windows 2000) and then upgrade that to
Vista Ultimate.

First you have to install XP and activate it or 2000 and not activate.
Then you can load the Vista DVD from within your installed OS and it will
upgrade it. If you don't have an XP or 2000 CD, you'll have to buy the full
version of Vista.

Why can't people do a simple search? It might take them a minute or two and
they just might find their answer. It looks like the MVP's and the same
people answer the same questions over and over, that's why there are almost
27,000 messages posted here as of a few minutes ago. Maybe there should be
templates that cover "Activation", "Upgrades", "New Installs", "Hardware
Requirements", and just past the same answer in. Yes, there are variations,
but 90% of the questions are the same.

That's why they are MVP's. :)

Where is the OP does it say that the OEM is not for him? I read it again
thinking I missed something but I don't see it. Maybe I'm old, but nowhere
does he say it's not for him.
