thx pete. i wish it was so simple. If i check this in the properties of
application(after right clicking on shortcut like u said),it gives me current
date even if i havent used that app for one month.
thought there would be some registry key that gets updated whenever the
executable (.exe) of any app is run...
ok, what about having a look in the add & remove programs section, i am sure
that in the list it tells you when the program was last accessed, let me know

yeah,tried that approach too. But Add/Remove Programs only uses Start Menu to
see when the program was last used. So if a user uses Quick Launch toolbar or
desktop shortcuts to start programs, the “Last Used Date†field in Add/Remove
programs does not reflect the correct timestamp. Hence this information is
not reliable and if u test it right away, u will see it gives junk value for
most of the programs in the list.
