Did you open the back door to see if there was a jam there?
Also, with the front door open, check that there is a little lever hanging down
just left of centre between two slots in the plastic, sometimes it can be
dislodged. If you push it, it should return to the down position.
If you had a paper jam in the fron of the printer and left a scrap of paper
behind it can be lodged under a guide and impossible to see. Open the top door,
remove the cartridge and look at the very front, there is a plastic guide with
one screw at the left. Remove the screw, very carefully look at the right end
of the guide for a couple of plastic clips that need to be released to lift the
guide out (they are not hard to break, don't force it). With the guide out, you
will see a roller at the left (roller is at a slight angle), is there a scrap
of paper stuck there)?
A 5MP I'm familiar with had a "paper jam" [actually a failure to pick
up the paper] due to one of the little plastic rollers at the back
failing -- the "axle" on one side was worn though (presumably a design
feature to ensure properly planned obsolescence
. I found that one
of the two similar rollers on a dead LJ6(?) was a fair replacement and
managed to foil the engineers' grand plan for about another year until
something else died that I haven't been able to diagnose so far, and
probably never will. :-(
[To be fair to HP, the unit was nearly 10 years old when that little
plastic roller originally broke.]
