I've been experimenting with an old HP Laserjet 4 Plus. It's a great
printer except that it's fairly noisey. I don't mind the noise while
it's actually printing, but even when it's in powersave mode, the fan
still runs. Does anyone know if there's an option or firmware upgrade
that will turn off the fan when it switches into powersave mode?

I don't believe there is. Flash memory for firmware wasn't really an
option when these were designed!

I find the fan pretty quiet except at its 'high' speed when printing is
taking place. I wonder if you have a noisy fan; if you have a chance to
compare with one elsewhere, it might give you an idea.

Thanks for your reply. Maybe this fan is noisy - the printer is 11
years old (and still going strong, print quality-wise - they don't make
'em like this anymore!).

Yes, I have several! You might try cleaning the fan...top cover is easy
to remove and the fan is accessible. They do get a bit choked with dust.

Email me if you need instructions.
